Landscape Design Project: DC Backyard Makeover

This Washington, DC Backyard Makeover transformed a previously bare and concrete-heavy space into a sustainable and visually appealing urban oasis. Pro Landscapes MD was tasked with creating a balanced design that maintained hardscape elements while introducing lush greenery and permeability, ideal for an urban environment.

Project Overview:

The customer’s backyard featured outdated grass patches and extensive concrete, lacking both aesthetic appeal and environmental functionality. Pro Landscapes MD designed and implemented a sustainable landscape that combines hardscape features with abundant greenery, ensuring both usability and a natural feel in the space.

Our Solution:

• Permeable Gravel Parking Pad: A functional, eco-friendly parking solution that allows water to drain naturally, reducing runoff and enhancing soil health.
• Permeable Flagstone Patio & Walkway: We installed a permeable flagstone patio and walkway, creatively set with grass between the slabs to maintain green space while providing structure.
• Retaining Wall: A sturdy retaining wall was added to stabilize the landscape and enhance the overall design.
• All-Season Plantings: We selected low-maintenance, all-season shrubs, trees, perennials, and ground cover to keep the backyard green year-round and reduce maintenance needs.
