Drainage Solution Project: Glenwood Dry Riverbed

Pro Landscapes MD tackled a severe drainage problem in Glenwood, where uncontrolled water flow from neighboring properties caused extensive erosion and flooding issues for the customer. With expertise in sustainable landscape solutions, we designed and installed a robust dry riverbed to manage water flow and prevent further damage.

Project Overview:

The customer’s property, positioned at a lower elevation, experienced significant water runoff during even moderate rainfalls, leading to driveway flooding and erosion. Pro Landscapes MD engineered an 8-12 foot wide, 18-inch deep dry riverbed to control the high volume of water channeled down the side of the property, protecting both the landscape and the driveway from future damage.

Our Solution:

• Dry Riverbed Installation: We created a large swale to accommodate the riverbed, carefully shaping it to handle significant water flow without causing washout or erosion.
• Driveway Downspouts: Portions of the driveway were temporarily removed to allow for the burial and extension of downspouts beneath the driveway, connecting them to the riverbed for optimized drainage.
• Layered River Rock Design: Utilizing commercial-grade landscaping fabric as a foundation, we placed large 5-8” Delaware river jack rocks, filled in with smaller 1-3” river rocks to stabilize the structure and prevent stone displacement.
• Native Plantings: To blend the riverbed seamlessly with the landscape, we planted native vegetation along the upper edges, adding natural beauty and reinforcing the stability of the area.
