Hardscaping Project: Silver Spring Newcastle Avenue Retaining Wall

Pro Landscapes MD undertook a highly complex retaining wall project in Silver Spring, replacing a deteriorated 142-foot cinder block wall that had served the property for over 30 years. Due to the height and structural requirements, this project required extensive planning, permits, and specialized engineering to ensure both safety and compliance.

Project Overview:

The original cinder block wall had fallen over, compromising the stability and aesthetics of the property. Pro Landscapes MD acted as the main contractor, overseeing and coordinating every aspect of the project, including engineering, demolition, and construction.

Our Approach:

• Engineering & Permitting: Given the wall’s height (over 7 feet in some sections) and proximity to property lines, we acquired permits and collaborated with engineers to develop a structurally sound design.
• Comprehensive Subcontracting: We managed all subcontracting services, including engineering, demolition, land clearing, and concrete mixing/pouring, ensuring a cohesive workflow.
• High-Quality Construction: The final retaining wall was built to withstand the test of time, incorporating superior materials and construction techniques for enhanced durability.

Project Highlights:

• Scope & Complexity: This $114,000 project is one of Pro Landscapes MD’s largest undertakings, with a timeline of 8 months for planning and 6 weeks for execution, employing a team of 6 to 13 workers daily.
• Enhanced Landscape: In addition to the retaining wall, a small flagstone patio (not shown in photos) was installed to complement the landscape, offering additional functionality to the backyard.
• Sturdy and Lasting Structure: The new retaining wall and graded backyard provide a robust and visually appealing solution, significantly stronger than the original wall.
